La Liga heavyweights Real Madrid are reportedly considering re-signing 25-year-old Spain international Sergio Reguilon in a €40m deal.
According to a report by Spanish publication ABC, Sergio Reguilon has appeared on Real Madrid’s radar over a potential move in the summer transfer window. The La Liga heavyweights have an option to re-sign the Spain international for €40m with the clause expiring in June.
Sergio Reguilon spent most of his formative years with Real Madrid before breaking into the first team in the 2018/19 season. Julen Lopetegui and Santiago Solari liked him a lot during this campaign but when Zinedine Zidane returned, the Spaniard lost his place in the team. The 25-year-old was eventually loaned out to Sevilla in July 2019 after Ferland Mendy arrived.
After a solid 2019/20 campaign with Sevilla, Real Madrid sold Reguilon to Tottenham Hotspur in September 2020. But the Spain international struggled to reach the heights of his lone season at Sevilla due to instability at the stadium Tottenham Hotspur, as four different managers took charge of the club at this time.
Reguilon remained the main option at left-back for his managers at Tottenham, but was inconsistent in his 58 appearances for the club. But despite the hot and cold in the Premier League, the 25-year-old remains on Real Madrid’s radar, with Los Blancos consider a summer move for him.

Real Madrid’s interest follows uncertainty surrounding the future of Marcelo and Miguel Gutierrez. While Marcelo will leave Real Madrid as a free agent this summer, possibly to return to Brazil, Gutierrez has found himself in a similar situation to Reguilon almost three years ago.
With Ferland Mendy being the only other natural left-back available to Carlo Ancelotti, Real Madrid need to sign a left-back to compete with the Frenchman. To this end, the Merengues identified three possible solutions to their problems, with Reguilon high on their wish list.
Apart from Reguilon, Jose Gaya and Angelino are also on Real Madrid’s radar, although they would prefer to re-sign the defender from Tottenham as he already knows the club’s requirements. Real Madrid can bring the 25-year-old Spain international back to the Santiago Bernabeu by paying €40m, although the clause expires in June.
The Spanish giants therefore have a big decision to make in the coming months, and it will be interesting to see if they re-sign Reguilon in a €40m deal during the summer transfer window.
